The Story Behind Storyline

Storyline – Sourdough and Sweets grew from curiosity, fermentation, and a desire to make bread that brings people together. What began with sharing sourdough and pizza with friends has grown into a market bakery rooted in craft, community, and the stories that shape western North Carolina.

Built Through Craft and Community

Storyline is an evolution. The way I started making sourdough is very different from how I do it now. I promise that it will continue to evolve because it is a process.

From Curiosity to Craft

Sometimes sourdough finds you and becomes part of your identity. My commitment is to the process and the realization of great tasting food.

Journey

A Story Rooted in Place

After coming to North Carolina with his family from Louisiana, Stephen kept building his skills and letting the work grow organically. Storyline became a way to connect bread, people, and the character of the towns it serves.

Today

Always Experimenting

Stephen’s artistic personality pushes the business forward with experimentation, risk-taking, and a willingness to pursue the craft in his own way. Storyline remains an ongoing project, from pizza recipes to continued fermentation culture through the Morganton Homebrewers Club.

Why It Matters

Made to Be Shared

At its heart, Storyline is about making honest bread and seasonal sweets that feel generous, grounded, and worth sharing. The goal is not simply to sell a loaf, but to create something that becomes part of a table, a conversation, or a weekly market ritual.

As the seasons change, the menu and market rhythm will keep evolving. Through it all, Storyline stays committed to thoughtful fermentation, handmade character, and a warm connection with the communities it serves.
